Hedonic hunger or hedonic hyperphagia is “the drive to eat to obtain pleasure in the absence of an energy deficit.”
The food industry over stimulates a hedonic hunger response in individuals by designing food to have increased levels of sugar, fat and salt. These foods produce a drug like affect in the same opiate receptors as you would if you took illegal narcotics. The brain gets rewired to crave these foods beyond natural satiation.
What you need to know:
- Never eat out at chain restaurants(Cheesecake factory) as they hire research chefs to manipulate this response.
- Carefully monitor your prepackaged food purchases for salt, fat and sugar content and if possible eliminate them
- Create Meals that do not overstimulate the trio of body disaster.
